  • All participants will take part in a two-day, in-person Kimochis® training. (Register for DAY 1 & DAY 2). 

  • District/State-Level Staff will also take part in one hybrid workshop designed to support implementation coaching. (Also register for one (1) DISTRICT LEVEL Coaching Workshop.)

The two day in-person training is for:  Pre-K Teachers, Elementary School Counselors, Elementary Behavior Coaches, Special Education RTs, ISLA Teams, Elementary BHSs, Elementary SLPs, Complex Area SEL Leads, Complex Area PBIS Leads, Complex Area Counseling Leads, 619 Coordinators, School and District Coaches, and Related Services Coordinators/SLP Vs.

Kimochis®: Tools for Emotional Intelligence and Social-Emotional Learning:
This interactive, two-day training introduces Hawaiʻi Department of Education educators to the Kimochis® curriculum—an engaging, evidence-based approach to fostering emotional intelligence, communication skills, and positive behavior support. Participants will learn how to use the Kimochis® characters and feeling pillows to help students identify and express emotions, build empathy, and develop strong interpersonal skills.

Ideal for educators, counselors, and support staff working with early childhood and elementary-aged students, this training provides practical strategies for schoolwide implementation and supporting diverse learners, including those receiving counseling, behavioral, and special education services.

Learner Outcomes:
  • Identify the key components of the Kimochis® Program: Characters, Keys to Communication, and Kotowaza (Feelings) Lessons
  • Utilize social-emotional tools to support student's social and academic growth
  • Apply restorative practices using the Kimochis® characters and feelings
  • Collaborate with families and educators to promote whole-child development

Day 1 Overview: Kimochis® Schoolwide Curriculum Training:
  • Orientation to the Kimochis® Feel Guide and Curriculum Toolkit
  • Strategies for fostering emotionally supportive learning environments
  • Introduction to the Kimochis® characters and their unique personalities
  • Teaching students communication tools through the Keys to Communication
  • Exploring Kotowaza—culturally rich mantras to support emotional regulation
